Grassfire burns 300 acres in Kern County

KEENE, Calif. (AP) - A grassfire has burned about 300 acres in a rural area of Kern County.

Kern County Fire Dept. spokesman Brandon Smith says the fire is 1 of 6 that broke out shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday but is the only one not contained.

The fire is burning near the town of Keene, about 30 miles southeast of Bakersfield.

No injuries or structure damage have been reported, and it was not immediately clear if any homes are threatened.

A wind advisory is in effect for Kern County starting at noon. Gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected to last into the evening.

No containment has been reported.
