LAWNDALE, Calif. (AP) - A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy has been released from the hospital after a shooting that left another man dead.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Aura Sierra says the deputy was released Wednesday after being treated for a shoulder wound.
Sheriff's officials say the deputy and other authorities were responding to a call from a woman who said her son was agitated and had a gun Tuesday night in Lawndale, about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
Officials say 29-year-old Juan Carlos Aguilar brandished a handgun and exchanged gunfire with the deputy, who shot and killed him.
Sheriff's Sgt. David Infante told KTLA-TV that officers from the Hawthorne and Gardena police departments were also involved in the shooting, which remains under investigation.
