The Red Hot Ballroom dance competitions will be held at the following locations from 9:30am to 12pm. May 5 - Palm Springs Unified School District at Palm Springs High School May 12 - Coachella Unified School District at Desert Mirage High School May 19 - Desert Sands Unified School District at Shadow Hills High School This program is a collaboration between the school districts After School Program and PE Programs. Last September, hundreds of 4th thru 6th grade students from 33 schools started learning and mastering Ballroom and Latin dances after school in the Red Hot Ballroom Program, a 501C3 Non-Profit Corporation. Students will compete in the finals for a chance to win dance medals and the coveted Red Hot Ballroom Trophy for their schools. Dances taught include: Fox Trot, Tango, Swing, Cha Cha, and Salsa. Ballroom dance has been a proven vehicle for learning social skills, respect for others, self-esteem, good work ethics, increased physical fitness, and of course, the art of performing. The band HEATWAVE will be performing live at all 3 dance competitions. This band consists primarily of youths that will be playing for the competitors.
