Cielo Vista Charter World Food Day
PALM SPRINGS, Calif., September 4, 2012 – The Cielo Vista Charter School of Palm Springs is pleased to announce its inaugural World Food Day held in collaboration with Well in the Desert, a nonprofit that provides local food assistance. The event is Friday, October 12 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on the Cielo Vista Charter School grounds at 650 South Paseo Dorotea in Palm Springs. Open to the public, the event will feature games for children, a farmer’s market, raffle prizes and fun for the whole family. Cielo Vista Charter’s World Food Day is held in support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ World Food Day, which aims to heighten public awareness of the problem of hunger in the world. There is no public entry fee to the event. However, those attending are asked to bring at least one canned food or non-perishable food item for donation. Food and children’s activities will be priced individually and will benefit Cielo Vista Charter School, Well in the Desert and FAO World Food Day. Well in the Desert provides daily nutritious hot meals, emergency food assistance, weekly supplemental food distribution, and access to community services to those affected by poverty, including the working poor, the homeless, seniors, the handicapped and others in need throughout the west end of the Coachella Valley.
