Imperial Splendor: Chinese Cloisonné
An exhibition on Chinese cloisonné, titled Imperial Splendor: Chinese Cloisonné will open at Sunnylands Center & Gardens on Sunday, January 20 and run through December 2013. In support of this exhibition, Béatrice Quette, an expert on Chinese Closionné, will speak at the Rancho Mirage Public Library on Tuesday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. Quette is Head of Education for students and adults at Les Arts Décoratifs, Paris, France. She is responsible for designing and organizing cultural activities while also managing a team of museum educators. An art historian who majored in Chinese art, she has curated two exhibitions on Chinese cloisonné enamels, one at the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and, more recently, at the Bard Graduate Center in New York City. A renowned expert on Chinese cloisonné enamels, Quette was the author of Cloisonné: Chinese Enamels from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. She is president of the French Oriental Ceramic Society and has taught both Chinese and Japanese Arts at a number of universities. Quette is an internationally recognized Chinese art scholar who has taught, published and lectured on the subject of Chinese material culture for nearly thirty years. The Rancho Mirage Public Library is located at 71-100 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage. This lecture is free and reservations are not required. Due to the popularity of this lecture series, seating is on a first-come-first served basis and early arrival is encouraged.
