Teenagers Robbed by Knife Yielding Bandits

LA QUINTA - Police are searching for a pair of men who reportedly robbed two teenagers walking home from La Quinta High School Monday. The robbery happened in broad daylight along a park path located just across the street from the high school. The students were walking home after classes.
KMIR6 News spoke with a classmate of one of the victims. "They said that the guy came out of the (bushes) when they were walking toward him, and they came at them with a butcher knife."
Police investigators say one suspect pulled out a knife, while the other suspect went through the victim's pockets.
"From my friend he only took 5 bucks and his headphones, but from my friends friend he gave him, they took his Dr. Dre Beats and his iphone 4."
The park is right across the street from the school. On Tuesday, the school sent home this letter telling parents about the robbery.
"I was scared, I was like I can't believe this is happening right here in La Quinta, it's supposed to be the best in the desert," says one concerned parent.
School officials tell KMIR6 that because the robbery didn't happen on school grounds they just sent a letter home to tell parents to be aware of their children's walking routes.
"I just wish the schools would be more involved, in knowing what the procedures are when this happens, other than, just getting a letter," says a concerned parent.
The robbery happened Monday at two in the afternoon at the popular park. Many students use the fields for practice, and families stroll across the path.
La Quinta High School sophomore Sadie Whitney also brought home a letter.
"It was pretty scary because the victims were the students, so I was like, oh my gosh, that could have been me," says Whitney. "I normally don't take shortcuts back here, but I do come here pretty often with my family."
Police say the suspects are Hispanic men, between the ages of 18 to 20, both with light moustaches.
