PALM DESERT - Elizabeth Beaubien looks into one desert diet plan and shows you how it works.

Eating clean means eating things that are fresh, whole and not processed..
It is the whole idea behind the "Desert Detox Diet."
Its author, a local fitness and health expert, says you can drop between 13 to 20 pounds on the diet in 30 days.
Cathy Serif has been in the fitness and health industry for 30 years.
She leads the Balanced Training Boot Camps here in the Coachella Valley - and you can tell from her physique she takes her health seriously.
Cathy created the Desert Detox Diet, simplified its principles and turned it into a book to help people become healthier.
"The desert detox is really isnt a diet at all, its all about changing your relationship with food - called desert detox because it takes reader through detoxing away from refined and processsed foods and getting more back to nature eating plan," said Serif.
The diet is very green and heavy on the vegetables.
Like the Desert Detox Diet signature salad.
"bed of romaine, spring mix garden begg, carrots jicama
sliced persian cucumbers - sugar snap peas
top off with raw pappitas pumpkin seeds."
The whole salad only has 100 calories.
And the egg white pie that's on the diet is only 150 calories.
Cathy says all of the meals on the Desert Detox Diet are low calorie, but very nutrient dense.
As for the whole detoxifying process, that only lasts for only a few days.
"It's more about cleanising and detox phase to get the reader a little more used to weening off of refined and processed foods, getting away from sugar and startch and fat and junk and fast foods.
the participant has alot of fresh fruits and plant protein and hearty soups and salads so there is really alot of food on 3 days." said Serif.
Another big part of the desert detox diet, juicing!
Like Cathy's leafy lemonade.
"No its really good and its actually sweet!" said KMIR6 Anchor Elizabeth Beaubien after tasting it.
Cathy says its important to plan ahead on the Desert Detox Diet to make sure you stay on target..
She says to prep all your meals at the beginning of the week and then organize your refridgerator.
And make sure you stock it with only the foods that are good for you.
A big part of the diet is food combining.
Cathy explains all that in the book, and makes sure that all the meals have the most nutritious natural ingredients she has found in her research.
She says the benefits of eating the foods on the Desert Detox Diet and juicing are clearer skin, more energy, and losing body fat..
Also, she says 70 percent of your body type comes from what you eat and 30 percent from exercise.
