Dr. Raul Ruiz offically become congrerssman Raul Ruiz today as the 113th Congress began work in Washington, D.C.

It was a hectic day for the freshman congressman and his staff, as Dr. Ruiz was sworn in before family and friends.   The Congressman is anxious to get down to work and push for compromise.

The Congressman comes to a house divided.  Ruiz knows the 112th Congress as plagued by political disputes and that many of his constituents are frustrated.  The freshman Congressman wants to change that.

Today, Ruiz changed jobs from Emergency Room Doctor to freshman Congressman.  He was sworn in on the House floor early this afternoon on a day filled with pagentry  and new faces.   Ruiz is hopeful the new year and a new Congress will bring change to Washington.

Congressman Ruiz leaves behind a career in medicine, unseating 14-year incumbent Mary Bono Mack in November.  Ruiz says the two jobs have similar challenges.

"You adapt, you progress and you work with your team to accomplish the appropriate diagnosis, treatment and the follow-up plan." Ruiz said.

The new Congressman is hopeful the 113th congress will do a lot less fighting and lot more work....the 112th congress was one of the least productive in more than 60-years.
