'Chart House' Remains to be Demolished
RANCHO MIRAGE - The Rancho Mirage City Council approved plan to demolish the burnt remains of what was once the Chart House restaurant. This afternoon's vote was 5-0 in favor of demolition.
The popular restaurant suffered major damage in a January 2012 fire when it was being operated as "Gigi's Island". The fire did $5 million damage to the southern end of the building.
The building had been desiganted a local landmark by the City due to it's 70s styling; and preservation groups had hoped that the building could be rebuilt.
Demolition work is scheduled to begin on Friday.
