 San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon said that 35 year old Detective Jeremiah McKay died after being shot during a gun fight with Christopher Dorner on Tuesday.  

Dorner is believed to have died in a shootout with police later on Tuesday while barricaded in a home in the San Bernardino Mountains.

McKay was a 15 year veteran with the Sherif's Department, having worked out of the Big Bear City station prior to transferring to Yucaipa.  

McMahon also said that Deupty Alex Collins was injured in the same shootout, and has undergone multiple surgeries.  Collins is expected to make a full recovery and is in good spirits, according ot Sheriff McMahon.
