PALM SPRINGS - The Boston Marathon tragedy is touching many people in the valley, especially a local track coach who trained one of the marathon runners. Vic Gainor is a Boston native and has run in several Boston marathons himself.
He trained one of Monday's runners, Eduardo Herrada of Desert Hot Springs. Gainor says this was Herrada's first time running the Boston Marathon.
"Fortunately for him, he's a fast runner so he must've been across that finish line an hour before those bombs went off," says Gainor.
KMIR6 has been emailing with Herrada, and he wrote that he's safe in a hotel room in Boston, and is hoping to get back to the valley as soon as possible.
