INDIO - Cathedral City Mayor Pro Tem Charles "Chuck" Vasquez was in an Indio court this morning, facing embezzlement charges.
Vasquez today asked for a 30-day continuance in the arraignment to arrange for legal counsel, claiming he had an attorney in mind, but needed the funds to pay for counsel. Riverside County Superior Court Judge Victoria Cameron allowed Vasquez two weeks to obtain counsel, rescheduling the hearing to June 25.
Vasquez is facing three counts of embezzlement from the program by allegedly purchasing a computer for a lesser amount then the city was billed for; for using the program for personal expenses; and for buying Master Card gift cards with program money.
If convicted on all counts, Vasquez could face six years in prison.
