PALM DESERT - The design for a proposed Salton Sea car license plate was unveiled this morning, after a design contest among students.
"I was shocked," a surprised contest winner Courtney Donaldson told KMIR.
"To have a license plate that people can see as they drive around that says 'save the Salton Sea' , it'll create a lot of awareness," State Assemblyman Brian Nestande told reporters.
Donaldson's winning design will now to to Sacramento for final approval.
If approved by the state, the new license plates will cost $50.00 in addition to the regular vehicle license fee, with the proceeds going to Salton Sea restoration efforts.
