PALM DESERT - An Extreme Heat Warning has been posed by the National Weather Service, predicting highs approaching 120 in desert areas beginning Friday.
The temperatures will approach record highs, and the warnings cover all of Southern California except coastal regions through Sunday.
Health experts recommend that people limit outdoor activity over the weekend because of the heat.
"You have to get out of the heat, get in the shade, stay indoors if you can and drink plenty of liquids," said Dr. Peter Andersons of Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage.
Other guidelines include wearing, light colored and loose fitting clothing; drinking lots of water and avoiding alcohol; and avoiding strenuous exercise.
