West Nile Virus in Riverside County Woman
First reported case of the year
The Riverside County Department of Public Health says a local woman contracted West Nile Virus, the first reported human case in Riverside County this year.
The 60-year old woman was hospitalized briefly for treatment, and is now recuperating at her home in Southwestern Riverside County. No further details on the woman have been released.
According to public health officials, there were 19 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in Riverside County in 2012; none of them were fatal. Two people have died statewide this year from WMV-related complications: one in Sacramento County, and one in Los Angeles County..
