Government Shutdown Closes Local Facilities
Social Security offices among those affected.
PALM DESERT - The Federal government shutdown has forced the closure, or at least the curtailing of services, of government buildings nationwide.
The National Park Service is also affected by the funding stoppage, forcing the temporary closure of Joshua Tree National Park.
Today in Cathedral City, people were turned away at the Social Security offices because of the closure of government facilities.
One man was denied in his attempt to get a Social Security card for his young son, who needed medical services.
"I was trying to get a Social Security [card] for my son," Sal Riveras told KMIR, "I lost his Social Security number and they said they cant help me. Something about the government being shut down."
