Miss Teen USA Speaks on "Sexploitation"
Cassidy Wolf knew the accused from high school in Riverside County
RIVERSIDE COUNTY - Jared Abrahams , 19, of Temecula is out of jail on $50,000 bail following an appearance in a Federal Court room this morning. Abrahams is charged with extortion from using a computer program to take control of several webcams belonging to women, then taking photos or videotaping them in states of undress. He the would email the women and threaten to publish the nude and semi-nude photos unless his demands were met.
According to victims, the demands usually included appearing with clothing on Skype for a "private chat" with Abrahams.
One of the victims is a former high school classmate of Abrahams; Cassidy Wolf, the reigning Miss Teen USA. Wolf is the one who alerted Federal Authorities to the extortion demands.
""I'm very relieved, I'm glad they were able to find who the person is, but on the other hand, it was somebody that I went to high school with." she said in an Friday interview on NBC's "Today" show.
"He was young, my age, and I just think it's sad that this is, you know, he chose to do this and has now kind of put himself in this big dilemma. So I, it's just, it's mixed emotion."
As part of the release agreement, Abrahams will wear a monitoring device, and his limited and supervised computer access.
