Report: RivCo Needs 10,000 More Jail Beds
RIVERSIDE - A new report from the Riverside County Board of Supervisors says that 10,000 additional jail beds are needed for county prisoners - nearly triple the county's current capacity.
The reports show that expanding county jails is critical to relieve inmate overcrowding, and that a new jail, or privatizing current facilities should be considered.
Key in the Committee report is the need for and additional 10,000 inmate beds by 2028 to keep pace with demand.
The county has 3,906 available. All neighboring counties have more beds than Riverside.
