Massive Wildfire in the San Jacinto Mountains
PALM SPRINGS - Fire crews are on the scene of a wildfire burning in the San Jacinto mountains along Highway 111 in Palm Springs.
The U.S. Forest Service says the fire has burned 541 acres since the fire broke out around 7 p.m. Saturday and is at 80 percent containment.
High winds, up to 23 miles per hour, are making it difficult for firefighters to control the spread of the flames. Cal-Fire and Palm Springs Fire Department are also assisting in the containment. Currently, hand crews are in the mountains attacking the flames.
Highway 111 re-opened in both directions. No structures are currently threatened.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
