Downtown Revitalization Moving Forward
PALM SPRINGS - The revitalization of downtown Palm Springs is moving forward with Wessman Development taking another significant step by unveiling Thursday the initial project renderings designed by renowned architect Mark Rios.
"I am delighted to hear that Wessman Development has engaged Mr. Rios for this important project," said Mayor Steve Pougnet, who noted that the sketches of the revitalized downtown offer a preview of a vibrant, shopping, dining and entertainment district.
The project is expected to create over 1,000 new local and permanent jobs.
"With the recent signing of the Project Financing Agreement for this new downtown project, the City of Palm Springs is now one step closer to achieving a revitalized commercial core," said Pougnet, who added that the future of this blighted property is the top priority for the City of Palm Springs.
However, this all hangs on the passage of Measure J which is on the November ballot.
Palm Springs residents would be taxed and that money would help fund the Fashion Plaza makeover.
