Suspect In Custody After Attempting To Sever Husband's Penis

PALM SPRINGS - On December 3, 2011 at approximately 5:45 PM, Palm Springs Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Rochelle Road reference a report of an assault.
Officers made contact with a 62-year old male victim who reported that his wife had attempted to sever his penis with scissors, resulting in injuries to the area.
The victim received medical attention at a local hospital for treatment of the non-life threatening wound. He has subsequently been released from the hospital.
The weapon was recovered from the scene and the investigation remains ongoing at this point.
Virginia Valdez, 67, of Palm Springs, was transported to Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, CA where she was booked for Mayhem, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Spousal Abuse.
She is currently being held on $100,000 bond. No photograph of Valdez is currently available.
