Former School Teacher Facing Child Porn Charges
Law enforcement officials confirm that the Cathedral City man arrested as part of a county-wide child porn sting is the same man who taught elementary school in Palm Springs Unified School District for several years.
A search warrant obtained by KMIR6 describes shocking details of what federal agents traced to Ronald Sousa's computer. The warrant describes three images, one with a young girl and boy engaging in sex and the others of naked young boys.
Palm Springs School district said it has no plans to notify parents of Sousa's former students.
"As a parent I would want to know that my kids in his class could have been affected. I'm still concerned now with my kids being right across the street," said Sarah Robison, who lives across from Sousa and has three children.
Sousa taught first and fourth grade at Vista Del Monte, according to several current and former teachers at the school. He retired at least two years ago.
Sousa uploaded a video with words of encouragement for gay teens on YouTube, and a law enforcement official confirmed that the man in the video is the child porn suspect. People are now questioning how a man so involved with children could be accused of exploiting them.
KMIR6 went to Souse's house seeking comment, but no one answered.
Prosecutors said there's no indication he engaged in sex acts with young children. The district spokesperson said the district will only notify parents if federal agents involve the school.
