DUI Arrests During the New Year Holiday Weekend
COACHELLA VALLEY - The Indio Area California Highway Patrol's Maximum Enforcement Period (M.E.P.) in effect during the New Year Holiday Weekend experienced a drop in DUI arrests and in overall accidents reported compared to the same period last year. The Period began on Friday December 30th and ended Monday January
During 2010's New Year Holiday M.E.P., the Indio California Highway Patrol arrested 20 drivers for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and took reports on 14 traffic collisions. Of the 14, collisions reported, 4 resulted in injuries to one or more occupants and the area had zero fatalities. During 2011's New Year Holiday M.E.P. the CHP arrested 17 drivers for suspicion of driving under the influence and took reports on a total of 10 traffic collisions, of which with only 3 collisions resulted in injuries to one or more occupants. There were no fatal collisions reported in the Indio CHP's area this weekend. Three of the collisions reported this weekend were caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, those drivers were also subsequently arrested.
The decline experienced over the holidays was also experienced during the entire month of December when compared to the year prior. From 12/01/2010 to 01/02/2011, the Indio CHP took reports on 127 traffic collisions. Of those collisions, 37 resulted in injuries to one or more individuals, 1 resulted in a fatality, and 12 were caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Additionally of the 127 accidents reported, 18 were considered a "Hit and Run" collision. Also during this period, Indio CHP Officers arrested 84 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
