THOUSAND PALMS - A brand new clothing manufacturer is making the Coachella Valley home. Tala Enterprises opened its doors today in Thousand Palms, signaling what could be ahead for the Coachella Valley.

If designers follow in owner Liat Tala's footsteps, fashion could be making a big splash here in the desert.

"It's definitely cost saving to be here. We avery lucky with the infrastructure we have, and the workforce, and the different incentive programs that have made it lucrative for us to be out here," said Tala.

At the ribbon cutting for the business, local leaders honored Tala and praised her for brining dozens of jobs to the Coachella Valley.

"Manufacturing is a very logical place to start for jobs in Coachella Valley. We have a highly capably workforce, trained to do these jobs. We are in perfect position for transporting these goods to the rest of America," said Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack.

Tala is moving her manufacturing from China to a site within the Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone. Business owners recieved tax breaks for having their business in the zone.

With unemployment as high as 14 percent in some parts of the Coachella Valley, hiring here is a welcome trend.

"On one front this garment industry coming here we're going to deal with the unemployment rate. On another front, there's the fact that the enterprise zone provides incentives," said CA Assemblymember Victor Manuel Perez.
