Man Hit and Killed by Truck in Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS - Police are investigating a fatal accident after a truck hits a man crossing the street in Palm Springs.
According to the Palm Springs Police Department the man was hit while crossing the street at the intersection of North Palm Canyon Drive and Racquest Club Drive around 8 a.m. Thursday.
"Officers arrived on scene and found a male pedestrian down in the roadway with major injuries," said police.
The pedestrian was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The pedestrian later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.
Police say the lone vehicle involved in the collision was an Isuzu Panel Truck.
"The driver and the Isuzu Panel Truck remained on scene and during the collision investigation," said police.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that the Isuzu Panel Truck was traveling southbound on North Palm Canyon Drive and the pedestrian was crossing North Palm Canyon Drive, eastbound in the south crosswalk of Racquet Club Drive" said police.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
Police say it is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.

The name of the decedent is being withheld at this time. This will now be a Riverside County Sheriff/Coroner case and any information on the decedent will be released by the Coroner's Office.
Road Closure:
The southbound lanes of North Palm Canyon ( SR 111) at Racquet Club Drive will be closed for the next several hours. Southbound traffic is being directed to Racquet Club Drive.
The northbound lanes of North Palm Canyon ( SR 111) at West Via Olivera will be closed for the next several hours. Northbound traffic is being directed to West Via Olivera.
PSPD is requesting that the public remain out of the area. Vista Chino, North Indian Canyon Drive, and San Rafael should be utilized as alternate routes.
