"This is not nice stuff," Governor Brown said at a press conference Thursday. "But that's what it takes to balance the budget and that's assuming we get our tax revenues."

 

Some  folks here in the valley saying the Governor is over reaching his authority.

 

"Bottom line is the Governor is not a dictator and he shouldn't tell us what we're going to have to do," said one Palm Desert Resident.

 

California Republican Party Chairman Tom Del Beccaro saying: 

 

"This cynical, scare tactic budget strategy once again hinges on the hope that voters will ignore their own financial problems to bail out the Democrats with another ill-advised tax increase." 

 

Other residents saying deep cuts to education are a necessary casualty. 

 

"I think it's time that we live within our means," said resident Kevin Koch. "I don't think education is the best thing to cut by any stretch but every program has to cut we have to live within our means and start having our government run like a business and that means at the end of the day if you can't pay your employees then you cut something out."

 

Assemblyman Manuel Perez saying:

 

 "I will be looking particularly at how it impacts rural communities, local economic development like the enterprise zone program and struggling families...I'm concerned that even more cuts could undermine our economic recovery."

 

Brown's cuts will automatically trigger if voters reject his ballot initiative in November.
