PALM DESERT- The Occupy movement staged protests at the doors of the nation's capitol and at representatives offices across the country, in what's being called Occupy Congress. Protesters are gathering to send a message against corporate influence in Congress to U.S. Representatives on their first day back to work this session.
"There's not equality in income in this country and that needs to be changed and it won't be changed unless enough of us get together and says yeah I'll change it," Dail Paramore from Desert Hot Springs, who was protesting with about a dozen other people Tuesday afternoon.
Demonstrators in Palm Desert headed straight for Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack's office to protest against her support of the Stop Online Piracy Act in Congress.
SOPA-- The Stop Online Piracy Act-- would make internet companies share the consequences for goods being pirated across their sites.
The Occupy protesters say the bill is censorship and could harm their movement, which has relied on energizing people online.
"Some likened what they are doing to instead of using a fly swatter when you need it, using a nuclear bomb," said Tracy Turner, who protested Bono Mack's office.
Supporters of the Hollywood-backed bill say it's necessary to curb illegal pirating.
The movement against SOPA isn't just on the street. Overnight, someone with the "anonymous" group hacked into the city of rancho mirage's website, denouncing SOPA.
"[Anonymous] respect no boundaries as far as internet websites go, especially government," said Darel Propst of Desert Hot Springs.
