American Cab to Continue Serving the Coachella Valley
THOUSAND PALMS - American Cab will continue to serve the Coachella Valley after a ruling was declared against the SunLine staff's recommendation to revoke the company's franchise.
The SunLine Services Group Board decided Wednesday to accept the documentation provided by American Cab regarding its ownership change.
The decision puts an end to the battle to maintain American Cab's ability to serve this community, which has stemmed several months, and will mean "business as usual" for American Cab - the largest cab operator in the Coachella Valley.
The Board approved the ownership change after SSG's new attorney cited there was nothing in the franchise agreement that gave the Board discretion to deny an ownership change. Prior to the meeting, the Board had also received 600-page binders filled with documentation that had been requested of American Cab.
Also in Wednesday''s meeting, Chairman Garcia of Coachella made an official apology to Board Member Dana Hobart of Rancho Mirage following an accusation of a violation of the Brown Act in a previous meeting.
American Cab plans to use the victory to continue investing in this community by replacing all sedans with fuel-efficient Prius hybrids as well as the installation of cameras inside its vehicles as an added safety measure for both passengers and drivers. American Cab is the only local cab company to be adding security cameras and bringing on hybrids to its fleet.
"It is our goal to keep adding products and services that will provide safe, reliable and efficient cab transportation to those who need it here," said Harry Incs, general manager of American Cab.
American Cab serves more than 53% of the cab transportation business in the Coachella Valley with a fleet of more than 70 vehicles, which include ADA compliant vans. The company's 'Designated Driver' program provides free rides home during holiday weekends when there is a high propensity for drinking in driving.
