East Valley Residents Camp Out for Coachella Fest Passes
East valley residents are camping out Friday night at the Riverside County Fairgrounds to get a coveted Coachella Music Festival ticket.
Coachella Fest is sold out, but 1,000 passes to both weekends have been made available by promoter Goldenvoice.
Residents living from Thousand Palms to the Salton Sea can get one pass at 326 dollars- while supplies last.
This group of Coachella Fest hopefuls are in it for the long haul.
They arrived at 11am to make sure they got the golden tickets.
"Because they sold out in three hours, it's ridiculous. To not buy them from scalpers for 700 dollars. It's my senior year, you've got to go to Coachella Fest if you live out here," said a group of Coachella Fest fans.
Even though there are two weekends this year, tickets still disappeared in just a few hours. But now east valley residents get another chance.
"Oh I think its so amazing, I was so disappointed that they sold out like so quickly. Yeah, I was so happy when I found this out, I was like thank god, there's still hope that I'm going," said Lauren, Chelsea and Elizabeth, all east valley residents.
People living in the right zip code wasted no time getting in line.
"I was going to wait to come tomorrow morning, but I heard there was a big line, so I was like, I want to go the first weekend really bad so I'm here with my neices and her friends so we're camping out," said Indio resident, Tone Rubio.
The music fest die-hards brought tents for shelter, f ood for nourishment, and games to stay entertained.
"We're playing guess who and gossip.""I hope it doesn't get cold, but I'm pretty sure it will," said Indio resident, Angel Sanchez.
But those tickets are worth braving the elements to many.
"I knew that I wasn't going to get a ticket before so when they said they were going to be giving out local tickets I just jumped right on it," said Indio resident, Jose Lopez.
And while looking for music fans, we also found some of our own.
"Coachella 2012, woo! Yeah! KMIR6 is the best news station ever!" cheered a group of residents waiting for tickets.
The passes must be purchased at the Riverside County Fairgrounds Saturday from 10AM until 4PM.
