Snow Blankets the Mountains
PALM DESERT--Wednesday's storm left a very white mark on the mountains surrounding the Coachella Valley. People were out enjoying the winter weather all over town.
It seemed like winter would never come, but the desert finally got the chills wednesday night.
Snow flurries falling, streets blanketed with all the white stuff, plows clearing the way for traffic on Highway 74.
Some folks not so prepared for the February flurries.
"We are just down here for a month and a half or so for the nice warm weather. We came here to get warm because our house cold in the winter time," said part-time resident Claudia Freitas.
Farther down Highway 74 inches turned to feet, cars unprepared ended up buried in the snow.
Not everyone was ready for the cold. George and his family got the chills after only a few minutes and decided to enjoy the snow from a distance.
"We were there probably 30 minutes made a quick little snowman and we were down," said Palm Desert resident George Lopez. "It was really cold and the wind made it even worse...once we saw the cars they looked abandoned and were covered in snow I think I saw maybe a Mustang we were like forget it lets go back down."
Others pulled over at Vista Point to capture the view
"My daughter first thing when she came outside today she goes we should have had everyone turn on their air conditioners down here in Palm Desert so the snow would have come down," said Palm Desert resident Rick Spencer
But at the tram the snow was welcomed, two feet fell overnight, still not enough for the adventure station to open.
"The last snowfall was in December so this is the first snowfall since then, we got two feet of snow last night and its all nice and pretty and white up at the top," said Lena Zimmerschied, Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
So if you're drawn to this snowy scene, don't forget to bundle up before making the great ascent.
