New information in a deadly shooting in Palm Desert involving a police officer and a student from the College of the Desert.
The shooting happened early Thursday morning at a home on Michigan Drive.
One suspect was shot and killed by police -- we know now that suspect was a student at COD. Two other suspects ran away.
We now know who the name of the man who was shot by an officer.
He was 20-year-old Frank Tanuvasa, a College of the Desert football player.
Already many messages appearing on Facebook as friends say goodbye to Frank Tanuvasa, number 77.
Football practice was cancelled, and teammates and fellow students are in shock.
"The team is going to be affected you know, when you're on a team, it's like a family, so it's going to hurt everyone," said College of the Desert student, George Rubio.
The mother of a fellow teammate called us, and told us Frank was a kind, warm-hearted man, and she couldn't believe what happened.
Here's was the sheriff's department said happened.
An officer responded to the burglary call, saw Tanuvasa run, and then a struggle began.
"The officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect, as this was going on, addtional officers who responded to the scene were giving foot chase to a second suspect," said Deputy Angel Ramos with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Two other men suspected in the burglary got away.
Students have more questions.
"Kind of crazy, I mean I don't see why he would shoot him, but in the first place I don't see why someone would be trying to do that," said College of the Desert student, Arnold Lara.
The sheriff's department continues to investigate, and the officer is on paid-administrative leave.
College of the Desert told us they will have counselors on hand for fellow teammates mourning the loss of Tanuvasa.
