PALM SPRINGS- Car collectors bid on high-end cars in downtown Palm Springs today at the 52nd semi-annual McCormick's collectors car auction, and for auction goers it was a trip down memory lane.

"I love the woody, brings back memories from high school," said Vicky Bellamy from Palm Springs, as she pointed to a 1956 Ford station wagon, complete with wood panels.

Five hundred cars went up for bid, including muscle cars, vintage trucks and luxury cars.

"You don't have to be a millionaire to come and buy a car here ,you can have $20,000 in the bank and you can get a gorgeous classic car that you can drive for a few years, bring it back to us, sell it, and you'll make a little bit of money, and you've had some fun in the meantime," said Jason McCormick, auction owner.

Auction organizers are still tallying up how much was made, but they expect to top last year's $7 million mark.
