PALM DESERT - A big delay for drivers along Interstate 10, but not because of any construction.

A semi-truck carrying hay caught fire around 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon on the westbound lanes just east of Washington Street.

The driver of the truck was able to get out safely before the semi's two trailers were engulfed by flames. California Highway Patrol closed two of three lanes for over three hours.

Traffic was backed up for miles. The slow lane is closed as of 4:30 p.m. and its going to stay closed for at least a few more hours. High winds and lack of water made it difficult for crews to put out the fire.

No injuries have been reported.
