LA QUINTA--A smash of a day here in the desert as celebrities and top ranked tennis players battled it out on the court all for a good cause.
It was a sold out day at the La Quinta Resort and Spa as celebs and amateurs took center court.
"You see someone like Novak or Roger and you're just kind of in awe every point," said actor Timothy Olyphant. "Then there are guys there are certain shots you know, I enjoy it anytime there's a good match it's fun to watch."
The 8th annual K-Swiss Desert Smash pitted celebs and amateur players against tennis pros.
"Tomorrow we start and you know it's just another tournament and i'm giong to go out there and try my best and compete really hard," said tennis pro Chanelle Scheepers.
Then it was time for the main event. Mike Bryan, one half of the Bryan brothers, the winningest doubles team in history, played against, Marty Fish and Sam Querry.
"I'm just anxious to be here and bring some awareness to this cause, Variety for children and get to mingle and sweat a little bit and watch and learn," said actor Justin Chambers.
One lucky audience member had the chance of a lifetime--reffing the match. Other fans came out to get close to tennis royalty.
"I like to see the Bryan brothers we were here last year and its just so exciting there's just so much going on," said tennis fan Darla Schmitgen.
But all the fun was for a good cause.
"I think any charity that supports children in whatever capacity is worth supporting, we're talking about our kids, we're talking about our future people who are innocent and most of the time dont have the power to make change for themselves," said actor Boris Kodjoe.
Proceeds from today's event went to Variety of the Desert, dedicated to promoting and protecting the health and well-being of unerprivileged and special needs children in the Coachella Valley.
