Interchange Construction
COACHELLA VALLEY-- Construction on two more interchanges along interstate 10 are finally complete. The Palm Drive/Gene Autry Trail and Indian Canyon Drive interchanges were recognized as complete today. But did drivers notice a difference?
Some say they did in the volume of traffic on Friday, while others had no idea there was a change.
"Its packed all the way back for maybe a mile or two," says Carlos Aguilera.
But after today, two of the projects are done, and officials say there's just one interchange to go. Officials had a ribbon cutting ceremony in Desert Hot Springs Friday morning to celebrate the completion of the Palm Drive/Gene Autry Trail and Indian Canyon Drive interchanges. Both interchange projects began in 2010, and cost millions of dollars. The project widened roads and bridges and improved exit ramps.
As far as the Date Palm Drive interchange, that isn't expected to be complete until early 2013. And don't forget about the Bob Hope/Ramon Road Interchange. That was opened in September of 2011.
The county used stimulus funds and local taxpayer transportation dollars in order to make these improvements.
