Cathedral City Budget Cuts
CATHEDRAL CITY-- Cathedral City officials say they have no choice but to make dramatic cuts in their upcoming budget. City jobs and one of three fire stations are on the chopping block.
Cathedral City Communications Officer, Allen Howe, says harsh cuts need to be made, because the state took away 12 million local dollars over the course of the next two years. Howe says the city is now facing deep cuts, and the revitalization projects are on the back burner.
Howe would not go into detail about employee paycuts or layoffs, but did say they are part of the proposal, along with shutting down one of three fire stations in Cathedral City.
"We're really looking at cutbacks in all areas of the city. It will impact public safety- it will continue to impact people here in City Hall," says Allen Howe, Communications Officer for Cathedral City.
The proposed budget will be presented to the city council on March 28th, 2012. Howe says no decisions will be made during the presentation. We'll have to wait until July 1, 2012 to find out exactly what's been cut out of the budget.
