PALM SPRINGS--A single mother and her 5 children barely escaped a fire that engulfed their home over the weekend. They were rescued by a brave neighbor who risked his own life to get the family out alive.
Piles of debris burnt to a crisp at the Santiago Sun Canyon Estates in Palm Springs.
"I'm still in shock, I, I don't know," said fire victim Faith Breeze.
Breeze and her children were asleep on Saturday night when a fire erupted in their home, they narrowly escaped.
"It's just terrible," Breeze said. "My kids have got no place to go other than my family's house right now."
Faith's neighbor Daniel Gonzalez is now her hero. The two had never met before Daniel ran from his own home, broke in through a window and saved the mother and her children.
"When I looked out the window I could see the flames so I threw some shoes on and I ran around the block," neighbor turned hero Daniel Gonzalez said. "I came up and it was on-fire pretty good and i didn't see anyone trying to help so I broke the window and opened the door and got them all out."
Faith and her children escaped unharmed, the house on the other hand is a total loss.
