The weekend that caters to the lesbian crowd will be much different than in years past. 

 

For years there were dueling Dinah Shore weekend parties, not anymore. Girl Bar Dinah Shore has moved to Las Vegas. Club Skirts is staying put and is celebrating 22 years here in the desert..

 

Girls, girls, girls, thousands of lesbians descend on Palm Springs for a weekend of pool parties, dance parties and well, girls!

 

"30,000 lesbians in one city, that's why we came here," said visitor Jes Boyd.

 

With a proclamation from City Council Woman Ginny Foat, the party has officially started. But this year it's a bit different with Girl Bar now in Las Vegas, Club Skirts is the only place to be for the Dinah. 

 

"What other party? I don't think our numbers will drop if a smaller promoter leaves town," said Club Skirts Producer Mariah Hanson. "I think there are ancillary parties that crop up because they want something maybe a little different then what we're doing, but the Dinah Shore weekend, that's us. Unless we go somewhere, Palm Springs is fine and has nothing to worry about and we're not going anywhere."

 

Headlinng Saturday night's party at the convention center - Chaka Khan and that's helping drive business to the valley, many hotels across Palm Springs are completely sold out.

 

"This weekend which is the Dinah weekend and Club Skirts is a huge economic generator for not only the hotels and restaurants but every other business facility," said Hilton Palm Springs General Manager Aftab Dada.

The party runs all weekend long, the Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs is the official host hotel of the Dinah.
