Top Golfers Plunge into Championship
RANCHO MIRAGE--The Kraft Nabisco Championship came to a close Sunday evening, after a week of events that brought together more than 50 thousand people to watch golf stars.
"It's like the Olympics out here in Rancho Mirage," said Gabe Codding, the tournament director.
More than one hundred golf professionals came from 25 different countries to play for the $2 million purse.
To help get the tournament into full swing, a week of events lead up to the championship, inlcusing the unvieling of a food pantry and a celebrity pro am.
The world's number one player, 23 year old Yani Tseng brought out the crowds.
The winner carries on a tradition like no other in golf, taking a leap into Poppies Pond.
"The champion jumps in the water and gets a white robe. That tradition is almost 25 years old," said Codding.
