DESERT HOT SPRINGS-- A teacher from Desert Hot Springs is making a difference in students lives through sewing and quilting.
Hand-made pillow cases by students at Desert Hot Springs Alternative Center, are going to bring some cheer to children hospitalized with cancer. The sewing class taught by Karen Wright, has made a total of 63 pillow cases to donate to ConKerr Cancer this year.
"Just have a heart and do something for kids with cancer," says Student Cynthia Rivera.
Rivera is in the sewing class and says making these pillow cases has special meaning for her and her family.
"When my daughter was diagnosed, my husband and I were scared, but we saw our daughter how strong she is," says Rossana Rivera.
Rivera says her oldest daughter had cancer and people from ConKerr Cancer donated pillow cases to her in the past. Now her younger daughter Cynthia is doing the same thing for other kids with cancer.
"Its very exciting to instill skills with our students who are at risk of failing, to bring something to the classroom that interests them," says Teacher Karen Wright.
This class runs solely on donations. If you would like to donate to this sewing class, you can drop items off at Desert Hot Springs Alternative Center at 13070 Palm Drive in Dester Hot Springs, or you can send an email to Karen Wright at email@example.com
