Measure J Interviews
PALM SPRINGS-- The Palm Springs City Council spent half their day interviewing candidates for the Measure J Oversight Commission. If you recall, Measure J was a tough decision for the entire Palm Springs community, and the city council says so is the choice for the seventh commission member. 102 Palm Springs residents applied for a spot on the Measure J Oversight Commission, but now its down to 44. Half of them were interviewed today. The commission will oversee how $43 million of the funds are spent during the Desert Fashion Plaza Revitalization Project. The tax increase, which bumped Palm Springs' sales tax to 8.75% on April 1, is expected to generate $8 million annually for the next 25 years. "I hope that they realize how sincere my desire to be on the commission is, and to do good- not just to get on it, but to do the work thats needed- and thats a lot of work," saus Candidate Leo Cohen. Interviews are also scheduled on Thursday, April 19 at City Hall, and the mayor says the commission is expected to be seated by late May or early June.
