Measure J Oversight Commission To Add Two Members
PALM SPRINGS - The group tasked with monitoring the use of public funding and progress of a major revitalization project in Palm Springs is adding two members to the commission still being formed.
Due to a spectacular group of uniquely qualified Palm Springs residents who recently interviewed to serve on the Measure J Oversight Commission, the Palm Springs City Council has directed the City Clerk to prepare an ordinance increasing the number of commission members from seven to nine, said Amy Blaisdell, spokeswoman for the city of Palm Springs. In addition, two non-voting alternates will be appointed.
"We had so many well-qualified candidates, it was difficult to narrow the field to seven," said Mayor Steve Pougnet. The mayor also noted that the addition of two commission members would benefit the entire community and provide additional expertise when it comes to considering community-based proposals.
"The City Council and I are very excited about the impressive field of candidates for this important commission and we hope to announce the new members very soon," said Pougnet. "This is a historic time to live and work in the City of Palm Springs and I want to thank each and every citizen who applied for the Oversight Commission for their time and investment."
