Child Abuse Prevention in Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS-- With five children per day dying from child abuse, April is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The President of the Palm Springs-based, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, says now is the time to shine a light on a very sensitive subject, and attempt to protect abused children. Terry O'Neal, the President of The American SPCC, says keeping child abuse a secret is all too common. In an attempt to get people talking about such a taboo topic, the American SPCC and the Human Rights Commission of Palm Springs are holding their very first town hall meeting on Saturday, which is open to the public. "Most people don't see abuse cases, because abuse is swept under the carpet," says O'Neal. "I remember walking around feeling like why is this happening to me out of all the people in the world why is this happening to me," says Child Abuse Victim Randy Boyd. The meeting will be held will be held from 3pm to 5pm at the Mizel Senior Center, and orgnizers are encouraging public participation.
