LA QUINTA- A pile of sod, smells and flies is turning a La Quinta cove community against the La Quinta Resort and Spa. Since KMIR6 aired a story about the neighbors complaints about a pile of resort waste left near their homes, the resort has sent crews to clean up the mess.
"They've used this area as an illegal dumping ground in violation of at least eight city codes," said Dale Wissman, who lives closest to the site. "I think the city of La Quinta has just been asleep at the wheel on this one," he said.
A city of La Quinta spokesperson said she was not aware of the resident's complaints.
"Nobody cared until the media showed up and now everybody is talking about 'hey, you didn't inform us,'" said Wissman.
Neighbors say the waste is just the tipping point. They've been upset with the noise and construction from the resort's maintenance facility on their block for years. Neighbors wants the facility shut down.
"We need to fix this situation down here and no is simply not an answer, we are going to pursue everything that we can including filing tort claims, litigation, public requests," said Wissman.
