Man Charged in Kidnapping and Rape Pleads Not Guilty
INDIO--A former Palm Springs resident is charged with kidnapping his ex-wife then brutally raping and sexually assaulting her for several hours. His crimes took place more than a decade ago. On Wednesday he was finally returned to Riverside County to answer for those crimes.
The defendant is charged with 15 felonies. The crimes were committed back in 2002 in Desert Hot Springs, but by the time police tracked down the suspect, a judge in Oregon had already had him deported to Guatemala.
33-year-old Norman Alberto Juarez was extradited and on Wednesday in an Indio courtroom, Juarez entered a plea of not gulty and denied all allegations on those 15 felony charges. Including rape by force, sodomy by force, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.
"It's a horrific case," said John Hall, Spokesman for the Riverside County District Attorney's office. "When you look at the specifics of this crime, what the defendant is charged with doing to this victim. It involves several sexual attacks in her home as well as some rapes and sodomy. On top of all that he then takes her at knife point, kidnaps her and takes her to a bank and has her withdraw money for him after all of this. At one point during the attacks her head and mouth were wrapped in tape and sea coral was actually placed in her mouth by the defendant."
For now, Juarez is being held on $10M dollars bail. He'll be back in court on May 25.
