CATHEDRAL CITY - A 10 year old girl is recovering Friday after she was struck by a car.

Around 2:30 p.m. in front of Rio Vista Elementary a driver admitted he became impatient waiting in traffic and took off down the center turn lane. While driving in the turn lane, a female student began crossing the street and was struck by the man's 2005 Toyota Corolla.

Police arrived on scene and estimated the driver's speed between 18-25 MPH.

Witnesses say the female flew over the hood of the car and landed face first on the pavement. She was quickly rushed to Desert Regional Medical Hospital in critical, but stable condition.

The driver, 38 year old Luis Deladillo of Cathedral was unlicensed at the time of the accident and police say that he had previously been cited for being unlicensed. No drugs or alcohol appear to be a factor in this incident.
