INDIO- Indio police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened early Monday morning.
CHP officers responded to a car smashed into the center divider and later confronted the driver of the car on the other side of the freeway before police shot at the man. The man was taken to the Desert Regional Medical Center. His condition remains unclear.
No word yet as to what led up to the shooting.
As officers combed the area for clues, CalTrans shut down the West bound lanes between Jefferson and Washington. Traffic was backed up for at least three miles for several hours. All lanes are now open.
