INDIO--We brought you live breaking news coverage last night on the KMIR 6 news at 6 of a fire burning at a commercial building in Indio.

The 2 alarm blaze started around 6 o'clock on Avenue 45 at Van Buren Street.

Crews are still working to restore phone service to several businesses there and cleanup the charred remains.

"Within 15 minutes we were down here, getting off the freeway and by then there were already 10 foot flames coming out of our side of the roof," said Todd Kinder, owner of Majestic Shutters.

Kinder's business along with several others were damaged in the fire. Down the street crews are working to restore phone service to the 20,000 square foot space that burned as well as businesses up and down the block.

"We got kind of worried about it because you know the wind started kicking up and it got pretty bad," said neighbor, Lupes Flores.

Investigators say the fire started next door in a neighboring business then quickly spread to a power pole. The flames knocked down a transformer and ignited Majestic Shutters.

Phone and power lines may be down but fortunately Majestic Shutters hasn't been knocked out of business. Kinder already has crews working to re-build.

"I mean we didn't lose the whole building we lost about 35 to 40 percent of it but what we kept is the manufacturing so we're not dead in the water so we can keep going so as soon as we get power we'll be all right," Kinder said.

Damage is estimated at $500,000. Investigators are still searching for an official cause.
