PALM SPRINGS - A large crowd of movie fans, Coachella Valley residents and admirers of the iconic film star Marilyn Monroe gathered in downtown Palm Springs Thursday evening for the official dedication to the giant "Forever Marilyn" statue.

The giant-sized statue will sit at the NW corner of Tahquitz Canyon Way and Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs through May 2013.

The 26-foot-tall bronze sculpture was created by artist Seward Johnson, inspired by the photograph taken by Bernard of Hollywood.

The statue spend the past year in Chicago, before a group of investors raised $100,000 to bring "Forever Marilyn" to Palm Springs for one year.
