Woman Shot in Suspected Road Rage
PALM SPRINGS - Palm Springs police are investigating a suspected road rage that resulted in a woman being shot Thursday night.
The incident happened in the westbound lanes of Ramon Road at Crossley Road around 9:15 p.m.
Police say while a black Honda CRV was stopped at a red light a white Cadillac sedan stopped in the left turn lane and a male Hispanic passenger in the Cadillac yelled and began firing a handgun at the driver and passenger of the Honda CRV.
"A pregnant female passenger in the Honda CRV was struck by one of the rounds on her face. The Honda CRV then proceeded across the intersection and into the westbound lanes, colliding with a black Toyota Corolla," said police.
The white Cadillac, containing the shooting suspect, fled from the area.
"There were four occupants in the Toyota Corolla. The driver and a passenger were treated and released for minor injuries at the scene. The other two occupants were not injured," said police.
The pregnant female passenger was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment of non-life threatening injury to her face.
"The white Cadillac was located in Cathedral City, minutes after the incident and has since been impounded as evidence. The shooting suspect, described as a male Hispanic adult, is still outstanding," said police.
Ramon Road was shut down for approximately 1 hour 15 minutes during the investigation.
Anybody with information on this incident is asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department at 760-323-8116 or Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP (7867).
